Reporter Jeff Wright writes Al Jagger was inspired to make Jesus signs after being in a funk on "the first day of the Judeo-Christian calendar." Didn't he mean the Gregorian Calendar - pope-mandated in 1582 - to help correspond Easter with Passover? Is his Judeo-Christian calendar some blend of Hebrew and Christian calendars?
Jagger says, "People celebrate the New Year all around the world, and they don't have a clue what they're celebrating. The New Year celebrates the life of Jesus." It seems Julius Caesar declared Jan. 1 New Year's Day 46 years before Jesus was even born. January was named for the Roman god Janus seven centuries before Jesus lived.
Wouldn't Jesus have followed the Hebrew calendar, without either a January or December? Does any factual evidence even correspond Dec. 25 with the date of the birth of Jesus? The custom appears to have begun in Rome four centuries later.
Jagger hopes his Jesus signs go up next year the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The Pilgrims fled to America to escape oppression and persecution from the pervading Christian establishment.
To where might one escape today?
